I ...Reading the story by Jon prompted me to write. I hope you have fond a reason to continue your blog. I would like to say that this is a letter of encouragement and hope, but it is not. My Internet search for a listening ear brought me to this site, I just wanted to read where people still have hope to go on after Parkinson's.
I am a 66 years old man and retired as a Special Ed. teacher after 41 years. I was so surprised when my family doctor wanted me to see a neurologist about two years ago for what I believed to be essential tremors. Some time before that I'd had a stroke and attributed my tremors to that.
But, after some tests and an evaluation process, my neurologist explained that I had Stage II Parkinson's Disease.
After I was released from the hospital, I had difficulty with my balance requiring me to use a walker full time and strangely enough suffer a loss of both my sense of smell and taste, I thought I would recover all of those things very quickly upon my release. That did not happen.
After two years, My balance has gotten worse requiring full use of my walker to help my slow gait. Nor have I recovered my sense of smell or taste, which I've never read any connected documentation.
My tremors have gotten so bad that I can hardly carry anything like a plate of food or a glass of liquid without spilling it all over anyone or anything around me.
Now, after trying several drugs to help with the tremors, balance, taste and smell, I am ready to quit trying. I am just so frustrated!
I don't have a plan at this point, but thoughts keep me awake at night as they race around in my head.
My neurologist wants me to see a psychologist or psychiatrist to talk about these issues, but I don't know if I can.
If this is not the proper forum for these comments, please feel free to delete them. I just wanted to see if there were others who had gotten through some of these things. Thank you.
Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02116261941711585528noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3048033856054023001.post-12455990569994107932012-01-14T14:31:20.448-08:002012-01-14T14:31:20.448-08:00Dr. Jane Semple, MA, ND is a Naturopathic Doctor p...Dr. Jane Semple, MA, ND is a Naturopathic Doctor practicing out of Cleveland, OH. I can say that I'm still to fight it even if it takes even more from me. I'm hopeful that I'll get the bid on this restorative aide position. Should I get it, I won't have to call off just because I'm having a slightly bad day, as it's safer having to give the residents some weights for their exercises and walking them. But he gave you this challenge knowing full well that you are tough and can handle this. Peace comes from within. You have to accept what God has handed you and say I will fight and deal with it. He has also given you family to help see you through those extra tough times when it all seems hopeless. I love you and I know that we can all get through whatever life gives us. Take some time to have a cup of tea (if you're allowed to have it) and reflect on what you can do and not what you can't. Ok- I feel like I've given you the big sister pep talk now. I love the blog! I find it hard sometimes listening to your struggle; knowing there isn't much another can do but simply listen. However, I would NOT want you to separate out your comments on faith [whatever you might call your faith] and how it intertwines with the journey that this lifetime has given you. In my humble opinion if you do that it would turn this wonderful, warm blog into kinda an antiseptic description of PD...it would take the you out of it. I don't mean to be presumptuous since I just began reading the blog. One of the things I have enjoyed is really feeling you come through the writing. If you take out [and move somewhere] the journey to faith....I don't know, but it would seem to me something important would be left out for your readers. There's my wooden nickel. Always, blessings to you. Prayers for you for strength to deal with and continue your journey.
Sandy GomezSandy Gomezhttp://www.fitlatingal.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3048033856054023001.post-52415858060527834622010-10-24T19:56:38.592-07:002010-10-24T19:56:38.592-07:00My first visit to your blog. I so recognize this insomnia and the depression that seems to worsen with it! But you're doing the right thing. You'll find your chronicle very useful in assessing the progression of your disease, both physically and emotionally.

If you haven't already joined PatientsLikeMe (http://www.patientslikeme.com/), please do.
